About Me and My Work
What kinds of projects, tasks, or challenges do you typically partner with nonprofits on?
Consultant, speaker, and facilitator - on-site or online. I help nonprofit board chairs and CEOs act with stronger skills and more confidence for effective governance.
My practice has a tight focus on board development and governance practice. Although we tailor each project to the needs of the client board and executive director, topics commonly include:
+ What board roles and relationships are appropriate to what we want to achieve?
+ How could we align our board meeting design and content with our strategic plan and intended outcomes?
+ How could we more effectively engage, onboard, and equip new trustees?
+ What governance model(s) make sense for our organization?
+ How do we get the work done with busy volunteer directors?
+ How do our policies and practices enhance our capacity to support our staff and the mission?
In addition to coaching and training, I facilitate in-depth board self-assessments and CEO performance assessments.

Why would someone choose to work with you?
I have extensive experience as a nonprofit CEO and as trustee of private operating and community foundations. These roles give me a deep appreciation for the demands placed on nonprofits staff and board members - the executive director and board chair, in particular.
In addition to my private client portfolio, I serve as a BoardSource® Certified Governance Consultant and a Standards for Excellence® Licensed Consultant. This allows me to provide clients with proven tools and processes for effective governance.
I also have an interest in emerging models of governance that feature shared decision-making, equitable power dynamics, and "flat" organizational structures. I was in the inaugural 2019 class of the Sociocracy Academy, discovering how sociocracy and dynamic community governance can enhance the performance capacity of nonprofit organizations.
