About Me and My Work

What kinds of projects, tasks, or challenges do you typically partner with nonprofits on?
Do you need help...

TRAINING YOUR BOARD
Our board trainings are designed to help people run nonprofits with joy, confidence, and results. Through "Powerhouse Boards" (and its companion on-demand version: "Nonprofit Board Certificate Course"), "Let's Talk Money," and "How to Raise Money for Your Organization," we show board members how to implement tips and tools to better serve their mission.

TEACHING PEOPLE SO THEY DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY?
We train nonprofit staff, consultants, and association learning leaders how to teach. Whether online or in-person, we provide a never-fail model for engaging people in what they need to know and how they can practice that.

CREATING OUTCOME-CENTERED EVENTS, CONFERENCES, OR LEARNING EXPERIENCES?
We create engaging learning experiences based in adult learning and behavioral research. We help in-house trainers or consultants design and deliver excellent trainings and conferences.

BUILDING A LEARNING STRATEGY FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION OR ASSOCIATION?
We help nonprofits and those who work with them to build a learning strategy that expands reach, revenue, and impact.
Why would someone choose to work with you?
“Nancy’s expertise is second to none. You will come away with practical information and ideas that you can put to use immediately! - IDAHO NONPROFIT CENTER “TRAINER ACADEMY” PARTICIPANT

“In addition to being a talented educator, you have an amazing command of the entire spectrum of the capacity building literature. You enthusiastically and effortlessly communicate this rich body of knowledge using practical applications, relatable stories, and real-world examples.”
Rob Maddrey, Chief Sustainability Officer, North Carolina Center for Nonprofits

I am the kind of teacher, instructional designer, and event planner that thinks broadly about learning so nonprofit people get what they need to succeed. Nonprofits are at the center of our communities. Their work matters, and so every learning experience should be excellent and action-focused. It should reflect everything we know about adult learning and behavior change. It should recognize that trainings exist within a larger constellation of programs, tools, activities, and other events that help people solve their problems.

I have created and led three nonprofit learning programs over my career. In each case, our learning program became the top revenue driver of the organization. I work on the program level of building great workshops while also being focused on the strategy level of reach, revenue, and impact.

I began my career in international education and worked for over a decade with Afro-Brazilian women on a women's empowerment program in Salvador, Brazil. I think about culture, equity, and justice in my work and actively seek to be anti-racist in how I implement nonprofit learning programs.

While there are many nonprofit experts delivering trainings, there are few adult learning experts working in the nonprofit space. I am part of a number of national adult learning professional development communities to bring the latest research into the nonprofit sector. I have spoken at several national conferences about learning in nonprofits and have worked with the National Council of Nonprofits and its members on learning programs.

I bring into the work a graphic designer, a technology specialist, or project manager as needed to get the job done. This team created all of the curriculum on the front page of the Washington Nonprofit Institute: www.wanonprofitinstitute.org.

“Talking with you helped me garner perspective and the knowledge I needed to discuss these issues with confidence with my board. You enjoy helping others, and it really shows.” -BOARD MEMBER, HEARING LOSS OF WASHINGTON
