About Me and My Work

What kinds of projects, tasks, or challenges do you typically partner with nonprofits on?
Sharp Advising is a consulting firm that partners with nonprofit organizations to help them build capacity through intentional operational assessment, process improvement, organizational development, and strategic initiatives—thereby allowing them to thrive and succeed in new ways.
Why would someone choose to work with you?
At Sharp Advising, we know there are so many amazing organizations—who are actively doing meaningful work in their communities—that have hit a capacity tipping point. But due to a lack of proper staffing, insufficient resources, outdated systems, and time constraints around strategic planning—they struggle to grow, develop, and deepen their impact. It can easily become overwhelming.

Sharp Advising exists to fill that gap. We partner with nonprofits to help them build capacity through intentional operational assessment, process improvement, organizational development, and strategic initiatives—thereby allowing them to thrive and succeed in new ways.

President & Founder, Matt Sharp, is a highly relational nonprofit and higher education professional, with an inherent drive to stimulate personal and group excellence. With 17+ years of experience, he brings a specialized blend of knowledge, technical skills, and expertise to his work—and focuses on empowering small- to mid-size nonprofit organizations to achieve greater impact on their communities. He has a passion for helping organizations increase their impact on the communities they serve through building greater operational and organizational capacity.

Before entering the entrepreneurial world, Matt spent six years as the Chief Operating Officer at a small nonprofit focused on empowering the homeless, severely impoverished, and marginalized individuals with housing, transportation, employment, and mental health and recovery services. In his role as COO, he oversaw business operations, organizational development, program development, special events, partner relationships, and strategic initiatives.

Prior to that, he spent 11 years at Johnson & Wales University, where he served as the Director of Student Involvement & Leadership. Through the university, he gained valuable experience in event management, program management, systems and process creation, developing and implementing strategic goals, professional development, financial management, and managing a team of professionals.

Matt received his MBA at Southern New Hampshire University, as well as his Bachelor of Science in Hotel & Resort Management. He also a proud Leadership Charlotte alumni, which is program focused on building Charlotte community leaders through inclusive leadership development. He currently sits on the Board of JoPri, a nonprofit serving the children of Uganda.
